About 25 years after Ohio essentially won the Civil War, (Ohio was the primary economic engine for the US during the 19th century. It also produced Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and generals: Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, and about 50 more. Three would later become Presidents.) there was an era of expansion of manufacturing and prosperity. Things were changing, the population was filled with pride and even hubris. There came to be a competition of prestige among the 88 counties resulting in a sustained period of grand courthouse construction. I plan to photograph all 88 and try to capture this past public spirit, so lacking today.
